In August 2008, Georgian troops invaded the “Autonomous region” of South Ossetia.
In response, the Russian military deployed its troops to South Ossetia, claiming protection of their “own people,” and the battle started between Russian and Georgian forces.
There was fierce battle in Gori, a town about 85 km west of the capital Tbilisi, and the Russians started bombing the town of Poti, a port town about 280 km from the capital.
The area around Gori, where the fighting was intense, was burned to the ground by the Russians. Mountains and fields that were completely unrelated to the war, were also burned. The hatred against Russia among Georgians’ feelings expanded, worse, and worse.

首都トビリシから西に約85キロにある町ゴリで激しい戦闘があり、さらにロシア軍はトビリシから約280キロ離れた港町ポチを空爆した。
戦闘の激しかったゴリの周りはロシア軍によって焼き払われていた。まったく関係のないと思われる山や畑が焼かれ、ジョージア人のロシアに対する感情はさらにひどくなっていく。
