Tuna Fishing –
Ohmacho, Aomori, Japan Ohma Town, Aomori Prefecture, is located at the northernmost tip of Honshu, Japan.
It is a well-known as ‘tuna fishing town’. Here are men who live with tuna.The frigid Tsugaru Straits. Here men devoted their life to tuna.
They fight against tuna weighing over 100 kg by “ippon tsuri,” fishing with a single line.
It is more like a fight against the nature, rather than living with nature in harmony.
The survival of the fittest. This is the law in their battle in tuna fishing.
Then between their fierce battles, there are moment their facial expression soften.
In fact, I come here with my camera for that moment.
The wind that blows in Oma touched me gently and harshly, just like the men who live here.
大間を喰らう/ 日本
本州最北端に位置する青森県大間町。
いわずと知れたマグロの街。ここにマグロと共に生きる男たちがここにいる。
厳寒の津軽海峡。マグロに人生をかけた男の壮絶な姿。
釣り糸一本で釣る「一本釣り」で100キロ超のマグロと闘う。
そこには、自然と共に生きていくというより、まさに死闘。
喰うか喰われるか、強者と弱者が確実に存在している。
そんな男たちが、時折見せるやわらかい表情。
本当はその一瞬のために、カメラを持ってここに通っているのかもしれない。
大間に吹く風が、まるでここに生きる男たちのように、厳しく優しく僕を包んだ。
