TSUNAMI: Major Earthquake off the Coast of Sumatra

A major earthquake off the coast of Sumatra triggered a huge tsunami that hits the people of Sumatra.
Banda Aceh, the westernmost point of the island of Sumatra, located at the western tip of Indonesia, suffered the greatest damage of all. Banda Aceh is in a state
of conflict with the Indonesian central government over independence, and reconstruction has not progressed as expected.
Aid from Japan and other parts of the world has not reached this area at all.
More than five kilometers inland from the coast, the tsunami left a heap of rubble in its wake.
Without warning, it took many lives in an instant. Yet the survivors, unable to receive aid from the rest of the world, are getting up on their own and moving forward, little by little.
This is a reality that the TV, news, and other media do not cover.
I kept shooting the shutter. I hope that this tsunami will be an opportunity to bridge the gap between Banda Aceh and the central government…
TUNAMI スマトラ沖大地震

スマトラ沖に起こった大地震は、大きな津波となって人々を襲った。
中でも、インドネシアの西端に位置するスマトラ島の最西端、バンダ・アチェは最大規模の被害を受けた。
そんなバンダ・アチェは独立をめぐり、インドネシア中央政府と対立状態にあり、復興が思うように進んでいない。
日本をはじめ、世界各地から集まった援助が、ここにはまったくというほど届いていない。
海岸から内陸へ5キロ以上もの範囲で津波の被害を受け、瓦礫の山となった。何の前触れもなく、一瞬にしてたくさんの命を奪った。それでも生き残った人々は、世界からの援助を受けることも出来ず、自ら立ち上がり、少しずつ前へ進んでいる。
テレビやニュースなどメディアの取り扱わない現実がここにはある。
僕はシャッターを切り続けた。この津波がバンダ・アチェと中央政府との溝を埋めるきっかけとなることを願って…
