Chad-Darfur
The encounter with the boy was sudden.
He hugged me with a friendly smile, when he met me for the first time. He always stayed with us.
Abdallah Zagaria Sheriff – 12 years old. He was born with a intellectual disability. The boy, who could not speak properly and acted in mysterious ways, was called “Boye” and was loved by many.
I was instantly captivated by his charms and was always with him. He never got tired of walking around under the severe sunshine. It was as if he was guiding me around the camp and connecting me with the other refugees.
The anxiety of being caught in a battle, the lack of food and water, doctors and medicine. Death is a direct consequence when people fall ill. Even childbirth may easily take life away. Adults in their prime do not have jobs, and there is no place to provide education for their children.
Through Buye, I could see their reality. The harsh reality of this place was just like a microcosm of the problems around the world today. Everything was here. Through this place, I was looking at and feeling the problems that are throughout the world
In their unstable and harsh life in the camp, they are waiting for the day when they can return to their own country. The place was filled with the various thoughts: people who died before returning to their home, and children who were born here and have yet to see their own country.
Buye does not talk. He just looks at me in silence.
Currently, there are about 300,000 refugees from Sudan along the border between Chad and Sudan. There are more than 15 camps.
This Oure-Cassoni camp, which is the closest to the border facing Darfur, where fighting is still raging, the living condition is the worst and exposed to much more danger compared to other camps. There have been plans to relocate the camp twice in the past, but the plans have not yet realized and the camp is still home to about 30,000 refugees.
チャド-ダルフール
少年との出逢いは突然だった。
人懐っこい笑顔で抱きついてくるその少年は、いつの間にか僕たちの輪の中にいた。

知的障害を持って生まれてきた。まともに喋ることも出来ず、不可解な行動をする少年は“ブゥエ”と呼ばれ愛されていた。
一瞬でブゥエの魅力にとりつかれた僕は、いつも一緒にいた。
灼熱の太陽の下、飽きることなく歩き回るブゥエ。
それはまるでキャンプ内を案内してくれているように、そして僕と難民とを繋げてくれる。
戦闘に巻き込まれる不安、食料や水不足、医者も薬も絶対的に足りない。病気になれば当たり前のように在る死。それは出産時にも例外ではない。働き盛りの大人たちに仕事は無く、子供たちへ教育を与える場も。
ブゥエを通じて、彼らの現実が見えた気がした。そしてここの苛酷な現実は、正に今、世界に広がっている負の縮図を見ているようだった。ここにはすべてが詰まっていた。
そしてすぐに、ここがすべてではないことを悟らせられた。否応無く、この先にある世界中に広がっている問題を想像させられた。
長く続く不安定な暮らしの中でも、彼らはいつか自分の国に帰れる日を待っている。帰ることが出来ずここで死んでいった先人たち、ここで生まれ、まだ自国を見たことない子どもたちの様々な思いがここには溢れていた。
ブゥエは何も語らない。ただ黙って僕をみている。
現在、チャドとスーダンの国境沿いには、スーダンからの避難民が約30万人いる。キャンプの数は優に15を越える。
その中でも国境に最も近い、ここOURE-CASSONIキャンプは、いまだ戦闘の続くダルフールに面しているため環境は他のキャンプに比べて最悪で、生活も危険に晒されたままである。これまでに2度キャンプの移転計画があったが未だに実行されないまま約3万人の難民が暮らす。
